The Route

The race begins at While Pelican Park at 10am. Participants will start with a 5km run, briefly along
the Lake Newell Resort Road, until entering a canal bank and running the canal road. From there,
the route continues along a prairie trail until connecting back onto the Resort Road and back to
White Pelican.

Next, participants will transition onto their bikes and head north along the Lake Newell Resort Road,
winding along the lake shore, and onto Township Road 182 and then Range Road 145 until they
reach the County of Newell Administration building. Bikers will turn around, and head back along the
same route to White Pelican.

Finally, it’s time to hit the water! Leave your bike at the transition station, grab your paddle board and
head to the beach. Paddle out into the open water, around a buoy, around a second buoy, and then
back into the Finish Line on the beach.

Congrats! You’ve earned your Sea Legs for the 2025 season!

Q. What type of bike is appropriate for the SEA LEGS BOAT LAUNCH INVITATIONAL?

A. Participants are permitted to use any type of bike during the SEA LEGS BOAT LAUNCH INVITATIONAL. The bike
segment of the event is conducted on a fully paved course, making it suitable for road bikes as well as other bicycle types.
We encourage all participants to choose the bike that best suits their preferences and performance.

Q. Do I have to blow up my paddle board during the race?

A. No, you do not need to inflate your paddleboard during the race; this should be completed beforehand. The only
situation in which inflation might be necessary during the event is if there are extremely high winds that could potentially
blow the board away. We recommend ensuring your paddleboard is fully prepared prior to the start of the race for optimal
performance.

Q. Do I have to stand up on the paddle board during the race?

A. Nope! You are not required to stand on the paddle board. You can sit, kneel, lay on your belly - whichever position is
most comfortable for you!

Inspections

We take our aquatic health seriously! All paddle boards must be inspected by the EID prior to the race. Your board must
have a valid 2025 registration sticker before the race begins. This can be done through the EID prior to the event or during
race package pickup times. Eliminating the threat of invasive aquatic species is a shared responsibility.

Q. Do I have to get my paddleboard inspected?

A. Yes, it is mandatory to have your paddleboard inspected prior to the race to ensure compliance with the EID Aquatic
Invasive Species Program. This inspection is essential for maintaining environmental integrity and preventing the spread of
invasive species. We appreciate your cooperation in this important effort.

Parking

Parking is available at the Lake Newell Resort Marina. No parking will be available at White Pelican Park.

Insurance

Q. Do I have to purchase Triathlon Alberta Insurance?

A. Yes, all participants are required to be insured through Triathlon Alberta, as this event is a sanctioned race. This
insurance is essential for ensuring the safety and compliance of all competitors. Thank you for your understanding and
cooperation.

In celebration of the boating season, the founding members of the
Newell Run Club organized a special event to mark the launch of
boating activities and to embrace the joys of summer outdoors. This
exciting event featured a 5km run, a 12km bike ride, and a paddle out to
their boat on the lake, where they were joined by friends and family.
What began as a fun gathering among friends sparked a deeper
connection, inspiring the group to commit to regular runs together.
Thus, the
Newell Run Club was established.

The dedicated members envisioned continuing the tradition of the Sea
Legs Boat Launch Invitational within their circle of friends as a festive
kickoff for the season. With the support of their talented crew, the event
garnered attention and enthusiasm from the Brooks Newell Region.
This year, the Newell Run Club is thrilled to present the Second Annual
Sea Legs Boat Launch Invitational, inviting everyone to join in the
celebration of community, camaraderie, and the spirit of summer.
